After reading Mr. Barnes' piece, two thoughts immediately came to mind:

1 - 1988 IMHO was not the best year to hitch a ride on the bus. The 'leave no trace', 'take care of your neighbor' and 'it's about the music' concepts were already becoming distant memories to many . . . and were seemingly unknown to others - (I am by no means implying that there were no good, decent heads and kind folk during this period - because there were, and many are still good friends - but to my eyes and sensibilities, the drunks and scene leeches were much more obvious and prominent.

2 - Mr. Barnes is so taken with the concept of 'focus' he might want to take a look at the Doc Ellis cartoon that Micah brought up earlier today. ; )

If you accept a viewpoint of what's happening "outside-the-show" aka parking lot and not necessarily what's happening at the show between the stage and audience well, then your opinion simply has no merit.

Recalling Saturday and Sunday afternoon performances at the Frost Amphitheater in the 80's dancin/standing/sitting there in a pleasant crowd of Artist's, Chef's, Doctor's. Musician's, Nurses, PHD's, Scientist's, Teacher's, Writer's, etc. i'd say your kid's were in good company and the best place to be on any given day.

I mean if you buy into stereotypes then WT (caucasion residing in Arizona) must be a gun-toting member of the NRA, Tea Party and is probably down on the border this weekend huntin some of them there illegal aliean's.

While we're reviewing the food chain, humans dominate animals, therfore is it too much of a stretch to consider what entity dominates humans in this universe?

AR, that is too funny, I also thought dogs - but given the poster, I was going to let that sleepy thought lie ...

Ah, circles within circles. Things are indeed getting suspicious here. Earlier it turned out the CC had also been listening to 6/16/74, just like ... me! Now it turns out that you, too, were thinking "dogs." Does that make me CC? And you, too? And hence, you are CC? CH and CC ... sounds similar, n'est pas? TOO similar. So clearly, if you are CC, you are also CH, and hence Rob, and apparently me. Which I didn't even know until ... just now! Oh no!! It's ... the MATRIX!!! (Wait. If it's the Matrix, does that rule Cliff out?)

I'll ask my dogs here. Clearly, this is precisely the kind of situation they'd come up with. While we're all confused, they'll grab the dinner.

If it's really the Matrix does that mean that Hunter Seamons is The Architect?

"I am the Architect. I created the Matrix. I've been waiting for you. You have many questions, and although the process has altered your consciousness, you remain irrevocably human. Ergo, some of my answers you will understand, and some of them you will not. Concordantly, while your first question may be the most pertinent, you may or may not realize it is also the most irrelevant."

And does that make Cliff, THE ONE?

And you the Oracle?

Yikes.

Anyway the answer is cats, particularly deja vu cats.

AR, let me put your mind to rest on a few of these matters. Regarding my presence here, I exist and participate within this forum under this one handle only - multiple handles to deal with multiple personality types seems to me to be the domain of someone with too much time and too many issues on their hands and in their head(s). What you allude to is a charade that I personally have no time nor mental energy to deal with. Others may find their use of multiple disguises / personalities an amusing game, but I think that is certainly an odd way to communicate with a group of strangers - strangers that over time and shared communications one feels they grow to know better so that they become familiar folks they can share their ideas and stories with.

To set the record straight, I currently reside in the frigid upper Midwest, I have never lived in Scotland, though I have lived in England and Wales briefly at different times over the years. I know absolutely nothing about actually participating in deep sea fishing - though I do love to barbeque the results of the efforts of those in the boats. I don't know which of the CCs you refer to, but rest assured, none of them emanate from me.

The 'dogs' comment is not the first time you have posted a comment that I also was thinking - this has happened with other folks comments, and to me, that is the type of commonality of thought and shared experiences that gives one a sense of comfort and familiarity ... that you are among like-minded folks - it's what keeps me checking in here. While i have long believed in the Ouroboros theory with regards to some aspects of life, most matrices just seem too complicated for my tastes. I prefer to just enjoy and appreciate synchronicity and serendipity.

I have posted, and most are well aware, that advokat and bluedevil are one in the same. For some reason, I had to log in once from home with a different browser and i could not get in as bluedevil (may have been that I forgot my password; so long ago I don't truly recall). Anyway, when I use google chrome at home, which is most always at home, I immediately arrive at this page as advokat whereas when I do it at work I'm bluedevil. I'm not trying to play any games and will respond to posts, like michah's recent one addressed to me as BD, via this handle. Up with deadheads.

You just want to feel special.
Or... maybe it's the fatal mistake, and now your cover may be blown (Hi ducats). Your handler (Belorussian?) is not going to happy with you on the next drop. All compromised and such. A bop on the head and you end up at a 'specialty suite' in Uzbekistan with a new best friend Mamut, massaging for the truth for hours, together. Here is a glimpse of the fun, but no where as nice as this, you understand. Yes?

I'd watch out duckpond.

Advokat aka BD, I didn't know that you were one in the same, please accept my apologies if you inferred that my little complaint was directed at you, for assuredly it was not. If some folks have multiple names for whatever the reason, that's their business. However, for some strange and unbeknownst reason to me, some folks around here seem to think that I participate here with more than one posting name - and some have wrongfully (and insulting and disturbing to me) alluded that I am part of the I-S, Kochman, etc. franchise of multiple names that continues to raise it's deplorable spectre here. This misjudging goes back to my initial post where I wrote how I finally had had enough of seeing/reading the hate from I-S while all I wanted was to check out some new, vintage good ol' Grateful Dead on a peaceful Saturday morning. Some of the regular folks around here then posted that I - or rather 'this new poster' meaning me - was likely that devil in disguise, so to speak. I was surprised by those comments then, and am still offended by any of those references by folks who still don't know a thing about me. So sorry, BD, but that's where I was coming from.

For the record, I've always been wary of the 'Up With People' folks in a similar way that some folks are afraid of clowns . . . I was surprised to see a notice recently that UWP are still touring the planet, all the more reason to agree, up with Dead Heads.

Hey Duckpond,

Don't know if you've checked that little box that says "I'd like to receive email when someone responds to this post," but if so ... look below and see what our discussion a few weeks back about "franchise" hath wrought. (Albeit belatedly.) And here I thought it was more like a Three Faces of Eve / Sybil kind of franchise. Didn't know the multiple personalities of the forum could be outsourced ...

Of course, if it's removed, you will now think that I'm the crazy one :-)

Hey AltheaRose, sorry for not responding to your post back then, I probably ran out of steam at the time . . . . About the ongoing "franchise" issue, like yourself, I, too, "thought it was more like a Three Faces of Eve / Sybil kind of franchise" - and still do. I pity the emanator for reaching out in such strange and disturbed ways, and I would venture to think that the perceived outsourcing posts originate from the same bored and tainted keyboard.

Now, AR, I do not consider you "a crazy one" from around these parts. In fact I see you as one of the more sane and grounded among this lot. Your wit, perceptions and creative writing are always welcome in my book, as you have given me more than a few moments of laughter and smiles while scouring these posts- maybe it's the Nepalese air . . . though today's Kathmandu seems a bit more urban and densely packed than my reveries of James Hilton's Shangri-La. Though, come to think of it, I have a good musician friend who has spent much time in Kathmandu and outlying Nepal, and his wit, perceptions and humor are not unlike yours . . . it must be the air . . .

Well, I clearly don't pay enough attention around here! Duckpond, I had no idea anyone might ever had alluded to you being part of That Other Franchise. Also had no idea advokat was a nom de other-computer for bluedevil. (Openly so, I gather.) Just being silly. Sorry if you felt insulted. Actually, you write too well to be part of That Other Franchise.

However, if I am you, as well as all those others, etc, yet am not part of That Other Franchise; and if cats now enter the picture; perhaps this particular Matrix is really ... the Final Showdown Between Cats and Dogs! :-)

(P.S. Not really. And yet ... hmmmm .... )

I have to say the first thing I thought of when I saw 'Up with people' was that it was going to be a Lambchop post. (I think Jerry would have enjoyed playing with Kurt Wagner.)

And thanks for your suggestion of Michael Hurley as a banish-the-blues listen - Have Moicy has been one of my best-loved albums for a very long time.

Good call on Lambchop - one my my Big Chill favorites for years!

As I was putting my Have Moicy away on Friday, I grabbed the old Hi-Fi Snock. Have you heard his two latest? I voted for Ida Con Snock as one of my top choices for the BBC Folk Roots Awards in '09 - and the vote was sincere. The ol' Snock never fails to bring on a smile. I hope you've shifted into a better place.

Except for Krusty he gets two thumbs up.
